A letter before action has been sent to the International Olympic Committee's Ethics Commission asking for a reversal of the IOC decision last week to not award the Sydney 100m gold medal to Greece’s Katerina Thanou.
HellenicAthletes.com has learned that the IOC received the letter prepared by Ms. Thanou’s legal team on Monday.
In total Ms. Thanou has brought to the Commission’s attention ten allegations against the IOC, including discrimination, abuse of power and a violation of human rights.
It is understood the IOC’s Code of Ethics obliges the Ethics Commission to investigate all charges filed.
Ms. Thanou’s legal team, headed by Dr. Gregory Ioannidis, has previously indicated it would seek any and all remedies, including the filing of a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the IOC, if Ms. Thanou was not awarded the gold medal and for her being barred from competing at the Beijing Olympics.
