We train to win!

what else is there to do in this world of sport?  participation is for kids.  when we were younger the teacher and coaches just wanted everyone to get a chance to play but as you get older, as in all arenas of life you start to pare down the areas you focus on.  in sports that invariable comes down to winning championships, Worlds and Olympics or whatever your level is.
so here we stand with the next one doing it all, usain bolt.  there has been no one like him since mo greene.  runs fast, tells us about it, enjoys the crowds, and wins in spectacular fashion when it counts.  it is great to watch and see.  he is easy to talk too, kid just wants to have fun out there.
on the flip side we have veronica campbell, serious and guarded and not one to play to the crowd but wins 90% of the time and like bolt has been winning since she was a junior.  i wish she would fix her form but oh well.
tyson gay presents the underdog.  not a big talker or big personality but country and wholesome and the race is never over for him.  that never say die thing endears him to the masses, but only when he wins.  he loses and folks start talking about how to fix him.  i know i do regardless.
then there is allyson.  quiet storm that just wins and smiles.  a sweetheart but she wins and clearly has a fire in her that she unleashes between the lines.

we train to win.  we respect titles and those that show up when the lights are on.  it is why i love my sport.  what can you do on the day!  one date, everyone knows it and everyone is preparing for it, no mysteries.  the whole world is watching to see if said person can produce as promised, no sneaking up an on a damn ting in our sport.  we train to win

And that is the mark of a champion, they show up when billions are watching and pull it off.  There is no greater spectacle.  Natural talent is not enough, you need to be born with that extra something, the ice in the veins.  Bolt's performances were simply amazing.
